I think we’ve all been there – as a teenager, we always find times where we are in desperate need of cash. We are constantly wanting to earn money, but with no idea how. Whether it’s for that cool new sweater or a brand new phone, there are always times where we find that we don’t have enough money to purchase something that we really want. There are so many guides out there – but most, if not all of them, are outdated or provide methods that don’t work.
I created this guide because I have so many friends looking for easy ways to make some quick cash online. I hated the feeling of not being able to purchase something because my bank account was empty, and I don’t think anyone should feel that way. Hopefully with my guide, you can finally earn money for that iPhone you always wanted!
I started earning money online when I was 11 – starting with writing articles (not very sophisticated, mind you) and using Paid-to-click and Get-Paid-To sites. I’ve experimented with dozens of methods in the past few years, and I’ve come up with a list that worked and still works for me today. I hope that you readers can take something away from it and start making some quick, online cash if you’re not doing it already!
One more note before we get started: I created a realistic guide, meaning that you shouldn’t expect to get rich from using these methods. However, you can earn a steady income doing the simplest of things online… which can really fix the financial problem in your teenage years – it’ll feel great, trust me! Earning money as a teen gives you a sense of independence – being able to purchase things when you want.
There are some websites that require you to have special skills in order to make real moolah, and some others that require nothing other than some browsing and clicking. I’ve combined them into a list – but in no particular order, because the potential income from each site honestly depends on your skills and who you are. So without further ado, here are the best ways for a teenager to earn money online:
If you want me to create a more in-depth guide on one (or more) of the websites/methods, let me know in the comments and I will!
Earn Money Online – Free Guide
SwagBucks is one of the longest-standing Get-Paid-To (GPT) sites. Normally, I don’t recommend such sites, because they are usually a waste of time. However, SwagBucks has proved its legitimacy and they have a ton of (free) offers you can do daily. The offers range from signing up for a website, filling out a survey, completing certain tasks, playing games, using their search engine, shopping at select stores, and more, all of which you can earn money from. If you’re looking to sign up for a subscription service, check to see if Swagbucks has an offer for that first, so you can get some cashback. For example, if you wanted to sign up for a gold audible membership, you can get it for just $2 for 2 months through Swagbucks’ offer, AND get $20 worth of swag points. SwagBucks also has daily contests and raffles in which you can take part if you’re feeling lucky. Swagbucks also offers cashback rewards in SwagBucks for many online stores: like Amazon, Walmart, Groupon, you name it. It’s probably the best GPT site to signup for if you are looking to earn money via doing small online tasks.
Fiverr is a website where you can list your “gig”, or a service/good to sell to other users for $5. It’s a great way to make quick cash, especially if you have a unique skill to offer to the customers. For example, if you are a really great artist, you could sell each customized drawing for $5, and additional services for even more. If you are good at a certain something, whether it’s a sport, trick, or skill, you can offer one-on-one advice sessions to talk about it. You don’t have to do any promotion of your product because Fiverr handles all of that for you! I placed 2 gigs on Fiverr in the marketing section, and I made over $1000 in my first month… I didn’t get rich, but I was pretty happy with my new iPhone 6. With Fiverr, making money online as a teenager should seem as no problem at all.
I wrote this guide a while ago, that gives a thorough, updated guide on how someone can make some free bitcoins on the internet. Bitcoin is a digital cryptocurrency, and so earning bitcoins is just like earning money. Give it a look at see if any of these methods help you out, you can earn for free and anyone can do it. 🙂
UserTesting is a site where you get paid to visit websites and/or applications and complete a series of tasks in a short review. Typically, you get paid $10 for each 20-minute review session. This should be very easy cash and the application process is very simple. They accept teenager applicants and all you need is a computer with a (free) screen recording program. Not only do you get paid for your honest opinion, you can also practice your verbal and written communication skills. I’ve never used the site personally, but I know many people who use UserTesting and they’ve had nothing but good things to say about it. It’s very easy to earn money with UserTesting – you simply get paid for your opinion.
Clickbank is an affiliate marketplace. For those of you who don’t know that that is, basically, there are businesses looking to sell their products. If you sell one for them, you get a proportion of the sale, typically 50% to 75% on Clickbank. If you are good at convincing people to purchase a certain product, then you should signup for a free account on Clickbank. There are products for every single category – from health and fitness to games to online business. Keep in mind that there are many others trying to sell these products to earn affiliate commissions as well, so you’ll have high competition. After registration, just go to the marketplace section and promote a product that suits you. Check Google Keywords to see if the product you promote is popular or not. Most people create websites that target a very specific niche and add content on them, regularly promoting products in their niche. Another effective way you could try to sell these products is through social media and word of mouth. If you are known for being very healthy and fit, you could tell some of your friends about a certain product you found that helped you out. Although Clickbank itself is a legitimate company, there are many vendors that have scam products. Please review a product yourself first before trying to sell it to customers! If you want to be successful at affiliate marketing, a lot of work most be put in before you make a single sale, but the potential earnings are huge compared to the other methods mentioned. The only way to earn money from this method is if you establish a strong connection with your audience (friends, website customers, etc.)
Ebay is a site that pretty much everyone knows of. We all know how it operates, but I’m guessing that a majority of you have never actually made a sale on eBay. The thing is, there are so many sellers on eBay that the competition for every single product is intense. Although creating an account is free many complain about the high listing/sale fees that eBay charges, making it harder to earn money. You’ll also have to consider the postal charges and do the math: will you actually make money by selling your item in the end? You have to make sure that you have a good amount of items to sell – as your reputation builds up, so will your sales and profits. Getting past the negatives, if you have useless stuff lying around, eBay would be the best place to list them. If you are uncomfortable with selling your stuff on eBay, you could look into some alternatives: other P2P marketplaces, or forums that your item(s) are related to. Be sure that you are getting enough money for your product (don’t accept lowball offers).
Blogging is something I decided to include in this post. It’s a unique, long-term method to earn money. You have to first find a subject in which you are truly passionate about (e.g. photography, fitness, traveling, business, comedy, etc.) and actively create posts related to it. Keep in mind that in order to run a successful blog, you will have to be very committed and constantly post new content so your members won’t get bored. In order to start a free blog, you should check out WordPress, Blogger, or Weebly (in that order). Most people give up on their blogs within the first few weeks – simply because they think that it won’t become successful. That is the wrong mindset to set off with – think of blogging as more of a passion than a form of income. Write to your heart’s content, and make your readers happy… the money will come rolling in afterward. Blogging is something where only the most passionate, patient, and ambitious of people will succeed!
Freelancer is a website where you can get paid money for work you do for others who need a project to be completed. Most of them require you to be skilled in some form – from proofreading essays to full-blown programming projects, Freelancer has a very large employer database. This website will probably only be useful for those of you who currently are experts in a certain job. Since there are so many categories, I can’t really explain it. It’s free to signup and place your “bid” for a project (basically, the employer/job poster decide who to choose based on the job price offered and the reputation of each worker, and that will be the person that receives the money). Have a look at the current projects and see if there is anything in your expertise!
Keep in mind that these are NOT the only websites you can use to earn some cash online! There are so many opportunities out there – but there was only so much I could write in one post before boring you! I understand that earning money online as a teenager seems hard to believe – but it can be done and it’s actually not hard at all!
